The Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee was the home of country music's Grand Ole Opry from 1943 to 1974. It first opened as the Union Gospel Tabernacle in 1892 by Thomas Ryman, a riverboat captain and Nashville businessman who owned several saloons. It is nicknamed "The Mother Church of Country Music".
